a couple of readings for strange days

The Capitol BuildingWe all know what day it is tomorrow – as if we could miss it – Inauguration Day. So here are two passages from the Bible that I think we ought to bear in mind – always assuming that you my dear readers are of the more progressive and left leaning variety. The first is about hardcore forgiveness and the second is about action. We need to remember to practice both of these in the coming days and not prioritise one above the other.

Matthew 18:21-22

21 Peter came up to the Lord and asked, “How many times should I forgive someone[a] who does something wrong to me? Is seven times enough?”

22 Jesus answered:

Not just seven times, but seventy-seven times![b]

John 2:10 – 15

13 Not long before the Jewish festival of Passover, Jesus went to Jerusalem. 14 There he found people selling cattle, sheep, and doves in the temple. He also saw moneychangers sitting at their tables. 15 So he took some rope and made a whip. Then he chased everyone out of the temple, together with their sheep and cattle. He turned over the tables of the moneychangers and scattered their coins.
