Stabat mater

It’s easy to focus on Christ’s death  as a human and spiritual event that is infinite and for all. But for Mary it was the death of her first born. Thinking about her anguish and hopelessness may bring us closer to the horrific reality of the death of Jesus and the finality it must have seemed.

I think the words of the Stabat Mater are a good way into the futility and pain of it all.

The desolate mother was standing next to the cross, weeping, while her son was hanging there.
