In Lent we give things up as a discipline to practice resisting temptation, to reveal to us the things that really matter to us that aren’t God and to attempt to deal with objects/fasincations/habits that compromise our spiritual life.
So it makes sense to take that forward into our daily life.
What can you give up that will make a difference to your life every day and not just in Lent? That will make a difference not just to your spiritual health but to your physical health and your mental health? (Because your physical and mental health are just as important to God as your spiritual health.) What can you give up that will make a difference to other people, by making a protest, or to the world, by reducing waste/exploitation or consumption? What habits of thought can you give up that will change the way you approach yourself or others – negativity, criticism, hatred?
There are a few days left of Lent. Try giving something up now if you haven’t already, just because Lent finishes doesn’t mean we can’t change the rules of the game.
