The frivolous business of choosing a church


Spotted a great article in the Church Times which turns on its head the very serious business of choosing a church and makes it into something brilliantly relaxed and frivolous.

Churches in Swindon are holding a Speed Dating event for people to choose a church. It’s aimed at people who have left the Church or become disillusioned. Attendees get the chance to meet members from various different churches and find out if one of them might suit you. After the event they will get a personal invitation from the church involved.

This whole event plays with our perceptions of how we can approach religion and creates a physical adnspace where churches and individuals can engage in the serious process of “checking each other out” without feeling at all inhibited.
